Down loss from down jackets

A person covered in fluff asks

My down jacket keeps leaking feathers. After some time it will have lost all its feathers. Can you model this phenomenon for me, and tell me when I should optimally buy a new coat? Perhaps you know a way of sealing the seams?

    I too have this problem. While it is not a full scale autumn moult, I do find it concerning.

    You could maybe tar yourself and thus stuck all the escaping feathers to yourself and therefore prevent any reduction in insulation levels.
